"Artesols (proposed) – The Human-Altered/Human-Transported Soils."

The summer tour focused on urban soils - a fascinating topic because they tell the story of both humans and soils (proposed soil order: artesols). Dr. Nic Jelinski presented an overview of urban soils and current/past research projects. We visited the restored Sarita wetland on the UMN St. Paul campus, as well as the UMN sheep pasture (now a stormwater retention basin). We then visited a local urban farm, getting an opportunity to speak with the farm manager and one of the growers, as well as explore an amazing soil pit!
